Many women are who are diagnosed with substance use disorder also have a mental health disorder as well. Hannah’s House specializes in treating co-occurring disorders in women. Along with comprehensive substance use treatment programs, we offer treatment for the following mental health disorders:

MOOD DISORDERS

Dual diagnosis treatment in women often involves treatment for mood disorders and substance use. Clinical depression is an example of a mood disorder that debilitates normal life functioning. Depression and anxiety are the most common co-occurring diagnoses among women. Bipolar disorder, dysthymia, or substance-induced mood disorders are other types.

ANXIETY DISORDERS

Anxiety disorders can range from emotional reactions like fear or dread of everyday situations to severe anxiety and panic disorders that present with physical symptoms. Anxiety is frequently cited by women with substance use disorders and requires specialized co-occurring disorders treatment.

POST-TRAUMATIC STRESS DISORDERS (PTSD):

Traumatic life events — such as verbal, physical, or sexual abuse – can trigger PTSD. Disassociation from oneself and anger, depression, high anxiety, and insomnia are a few symptoms of PTSD.

OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDERS (OCD):

When a woman experiences uncontrollable thoughts, obsessions, or behaviors she feels the urge to repeat, OCD can be an issue. When OCD is combined with addiction, a woman’s life can be severely impacted and she can benefit from specialized co-occurring disorders treatment.

PERSONALITY DISORDERS:

Three personality disorders common among women with addiction include borderline personality disorder (BPD), narcissistic personality disorder, and histrionic personality disorder. Other examples are paranoid personality disorder, schizoid personality disorder, avoidant personality disorder, and dependent personality disorder.

PROCESS ADDICTIONS:

Excessive shopping, gambling, disordered eating, and sex are examples of process addictions. Cross-addictive behaviors may exacerbate one another and lead to further challenges.
