FAQS about Aetna Insurance for Substance and Alcohol Use

Does Aetna cover drug rehab?

Aetna does provide coverage for part or all drug use disorder treatment programs, though the specific details of individual policies will vary. Our representatives will be on hand to help you better understand the scope of your plan and ensure your claim is submitted and processed accurately and seamlessly.

Insurance providers are required by law to provide basic coverage for behavioral health services, including substance use disorder treatments, mental health treatments, and rehabilitative services.

We can design a treatment program that aligns with your policy’s parameters no matter which level of coverage you have.

As a Hannah’s House in-network provider, Aetna offers more in-depth coverage for addiction services than out-of-network insurance providers. Either a Hannah’s House representative or a family member can obtain the required prior authorization. If you need additional assistance, a Hannah’s House representative will be more than happy to verify your policy’s details and even help you discover additional options for funding.

Does Aetna cover alcohol rehab?

Aetna offers coverage for alcohol-related substance use disorders and treatments for co-occurring disorders and related health issues. To determine your level of coverage or to verify coverage, you can check online or call the member services number on the back of your insurance card.

Does Aetna insurance cover substance use treatment?

Aetna covers behavioral health services, including substance use disorder treatments and other services relating to mental health. To verify the extent of your coverage, call the member services number on the back of your Aetna insurance card. A Hannah’s House representative can also help you determine your eligibility.

Does Aetna insurance cover addiction treatment?

What if my Aetna insurance plan doesn’t cover addiction treatment?

All insurance providers are required by the Affordable Care Act to provide coverage for certain basic addiction treatment services. However, if your insurance plan does not cover certain types of treatment, the Hannah’s House team will help you explore alternative funding sources – including payment plans – to offset treatment costs.

How long does Aetna insurance cover rehab?

Rehab services are customized to meet the individual needs of each person. Studies have shown that more intensive treatment is most effective. Treatments that last 90 days or longer are more likely to lead to long-term sobriety.

Depending on the plan and the services involved, Aetna will cover rehab services for a specific period. Each Aetna insurance plan offers different levels of coverage. There are different premiums, deductibles, and copays based on each level. Substance use disorder rehab services are also classified in numerous ways — there are several treatment plans designed to address individual needs. These include, but are not limited to, residential treatment programs, continuing care, and counseling services.

To verify your treatment coverage, you can call the member services number on the back of your Aetna insurance card. A Hannah’s House representative can also help you navigate the claims process. Moreover, your care team will help you design a treatment plan that simultaneously addresses your needs and adheres to your policy’s approved services.

What is Aetna insurance?

Aetna is a managed health insurance provider that offers a broad spectrum of health-related services, including medical, dental, pharmaceutical, mental/behavioral health, disability, and long-term care plans.

Aetna offers the following insurance plans:

  • Exclusive Provider Organization (EPO). This plan offers coverage for in-network care. The costs are higher than HMO plans, but EPO plans offer a much larger network of specialists.
  • Health Maintenance Organization (HMO). HMOs offer the lowest monthly deductibles and premiums. They require a referral from a primary care physician and do not provide out-of-network coverage.
  • High Deductible Health Plan (HDHP). This plan has high deductible payments but low monthly premiums. It is generally paired with a healthcare savings account.
  • Point of Service (POS). Like an HMO, a POS requires a referral from a primary care physician before seeing a specialist. However, this plan offers coverage for out-of-network care.
  • Preferred Provider Organization (PPO). This plan has higher premiums but offers the most flexibility and freedom. PPO plans allow for out-of-network care and do not require referrals.
What should I do if Aetna insurance doesn’t cover the total cost of rehab?

At Hannah’s House, we are dedicated to helping you access the treatment you need to recover from a substance use disorder. If your insurance plan doesn’t cover your necessary treatment, our representatives will help you explore other sources of funding to help you begin your treatment process.
